Natural Investments refers to private market investments as “regenerative” because this economic capital attempts to mimic natural ecosystems. It provides integrative cycles of financial support and opportunity while minimizing toxic social and environmental repercussions. Regenerative investing is a stewardship approach to assure future generations share in the bounty of clean air and water, healthy food, affordable housing, and safe and secure jobs, to which everyone has a right. In the last year, Natural Investments has directed $462 million—over a quarter of its assets under management—into 94 private entities supporting the public good for people and the planet in a regenerative economy. This is a five-fold increase since 2019. Among these companies, the firm invested in six cooperatives, 15 nonprofits, and 22 for-profit corporations conferred a beneficial to social impact status, B Corp. These priorities focus on investments that decentralize and democratize the economic system to create greater community resiliency such as sustainable food and forestry, renewable power and energy efficiency, and sustainable construction or “green building.”
